Book Your Room
A room escape, or live-action puzzle room, is a room that is essentially one big puzzle. A group of 2-8 people are "locked" in a room, and in order to get out, they must work together to search the room, find clues, solve the puzzles and challenges and try to open the locked boxes around the room. If successful, the team will complete their objective in under an hour.
The actual game time is one hour. You should show up 10-15 minutes before your scheduled time to sign our waiver and go over instructions. There may also be 5-10 minutes afterwards for debriefing and taking your picture.
All of our pricing is outlined on our Pricing and Promotions page. We run promotions quite often, and our email subscribers are the first to get notified. If you'd like to receive those email updates, sign up here.
No, you are not actually locked in the room. Without a gamemaster in the room with you we are not allowed to lock players in a room. If you're in the room and find that you need to leave, you are allowed to leave the room and re-enter when you're ready.
We do have rules that we ask everyone to follow. Please check out our Rules & Tips page for more information on our rules.
You will be expected to use your brain and work as part of a team to solve puzzles and riddles. Communication is also very important. There is no heavy lifting involved and you don't need any special knowledge to participate in a room escape. The only knowledge we require are basic math skills.
No, you do not. However, we require a minimum number of people to run each room, so be sure you check what that number is first. If you choose to book only two or three spots in a room at a particular time, you may be paired up with another group of two or three people. This is so we can try to fill the room at each time slot. If you want to take on the room with just two or three people, then you would have to purchase the remaining spots to guarantee no other group will join you (they are $10 each). Keep in mind our escape rooms are designed for at least 4 players.
No way! All you get is your brain and what you find in the room. All personal items will be safely locked up outside the room before you enter.
Each room has a maximum number of players that varies with the size and difficulty of each room. This information is indicated next to the description of each room on Our Rooms page. The minimum number of people allowed to run the room is also listed there.
Because the time slots are fixed, arriving late can throw off other groups later in the evening. If you're whole group is late, you may miss out on some of the backstory or debriefing after you're done so we can try to stay on time. If one or two people are running late, the rest of the group will start on time and the late arrivals can join in when they get there.
Please read and understand our cancellation and late policy before making a booking.
Room Escapes are great for corporate team building events! The escape situation forces groups to work together, share thoughts, and communicate well. It can also reveal who performs well under pressure and what roles individuals take on in a challenging scenario.
We've partnered with LMI Chicago to offer business a robust and valuable team building experience at Hidden Key Escapes. Besides the fun of trying our escape rooms, you can have team building experts discuss team dynamics, goal setting, and much more. You can view all the details and pricing of our team building packages here.
We love hosting large events or parties! Our four escape rooms can play 26-30 players at one time, and we have a large party room that groups can utilize while they're here. This party room will be perfect for larger corporate outings or birthday parties that may need space for food and beverages, opening gifts or giving a presentation. Check out our Party Room page for more information.
Yes. Anyone participating in a room without any adults present must be 14 or older. In order for anyone under the age of 14 to participate, they must be accompanied by an adult that is at least 18 years old. Our rooms are not recommended for groups consisting of kids 11 or younger. Younger kids attending their parents or other adults is totally fine. Keep in mind any player under the age of 18 must have the waiver signed by a parent or guardian before participating.
We would be happy to accept walk-ins, but unforunately, it is too hard to prepare for them. Without a reservation in our system we may not have a Gamemaster present to take your group. If there is a Gamemaster there, it's likely because there is already a group scheduled. Always make a reservation if you can. If not, give us a call ahead and we'll do our best to get you in.
The only thing that happens if you fail to escape is that you walk away wondering how you could have done it better and you miss out on some sweet swag. Plus we take your picture and post in on social media so everybody knows you failed.
Wear clothes you feel comfortable in...there is no dress code. Comfortable shoes are highly recommended as you'll be on your feet for most of the time. Layers are also recommended as it can get warm inside the rooms.
We are happy to take groups during the days or on evenings we're not normally open. Always call first to make sure we're available on that given day and time. Please try to allow at least a week lead time for large groups on off-hours. Smaller groups should be no problem.
